It’s been a month since my wife and I moved from a quiet small town in Suffolk to the big city that is Liverpool and it’s been amazing. Yes, we've had to make adjustments moving to a metropolitan city but these are adjustments we welcome. I think both of us have settled into city life very well, having everything on our doorstep is something we definitely need to get used to. We live within 10 minutes of the centre of Liverpool which is perfect, we can walk along the river Mersey right to the Royal Albert Docks enjoying the views and then into the centre, but the great thing is this is only one of the many ways into the centre, so much choice.
My wife is enjoying her new job and has taken to city life like a fish to water which is amazing. The apartment where we live is something else and it put us right next to a river and five minutes from the city centre. I’m sitting on the 17th floor which has a resident’s lounge as I’m writing this very blog, the view out the window is nuts, there’s a cruise ship all lit up sitting in the dock, and the city of Liverpool is lit up and its a view I’ll never get tired off, so inspiring.
My street photography is starting to move in the right direction once again and this has been exciting. If you are a regular visitor to my blog you’ll know that I’ve been struggling and I knew (or should I say I hoped) that a new area would excite me again and reignite my passion for street shooting and boy has it, I’m out every day walking the streets looking for areas that I can spend time shooting in and I’ve found an abundant within minutes from where I live, its more than I could’ve wished for. I was asked a few days ago if Liverpool had lived up to my high expectations and I had to say no, honestly my expectations weren’t high enough.
I start every day by meditating in one of the areas of my apartment block or by the river, depending on the weather after 30 or so minutes of meditation I’m ready for what the day will bring me. I’ll have a slow walk into the city centre taking a different route each day the walk takes me over an hour and I’m very focused on being mindful which in turn has been turning my photography all the way up to 11. I’ll stop for a coffee at one of the many wonderful independent coffee houses the city has to offer, one, in particular, has a drink called London fog and I have no idea where this drink has been all my life, I might sit and write of maybe I’ll edit some photos always being mindful and watching for that moment that might happen in front of me. Then it’s back to the streets as make the slow walk back home, I feel so honoured to be living in such an inspirational place and I’ll never take it for granted.
