Once the children went back to school Starbucks became quiet, well apart from the weekends. Since I was spending a fair bit of time shooting on the streets of Cambridge and London, I decided to take a bit of break from my Starbucks project, once in a while it’s good to take a step back and look at the project with a fresh set of eyes.
Of course, I was still visiting Starbucks, I love the place and as I’ve said before it’s the only enjoyable place in my hometown. I still find it the most relaxing place for me to write my blogs (yes I’m sat in there writing this one), I’ve tried writing my blogs in others places including my home, but for some reason, Starbucks is the only place that works for me, isn’t that strange…
So even though I’d stepped back from my project I would, of course, take my camera with me, it’s like American Express, I never leave home without it. I always have my bag (Billingham Hadley One) with me and inside will be the following, 13” MacBook Pro, Fujifilm X-T2 with the 56mm sometimes my X-E3 with the 23mm F2 lens, my headphones (I can’t sit in there without them) and sometimes my iPad Pro.
A few weeks ago I started to take a few photos in Starbucks, not that many to begin with. A few things have changed with the project, I try to sit in different places now one of these is by the window. Sitting by the window has started to give me some very different looking photos, now depending on which side of the entrance I sit is what I’ll photograph. If I sit to the left-hand-side I’ll take photos of people just outside the door, waiting to come in or just leaving, also from that side I can take photos inside. Sitting on the right-hand-side I mostly take photos of people walking past or people waiting to be served. Sitting in a different spot might not sound like it makes a big difference, but I can assure you that it does and it makes the project fresh for me.
The last thing that has changed is the camera, I started this project with the Fujifilm X-E3, the camera was a perfect size as nobody noticed it, the trouble is my X-E3 now has the 23mm F2 lens attached all the time and I absolutely don’t like changing lenses. Seeing as my Fujifilm 56mm F1.2 lives 100% on my Fujifilm X-T2 I decided to try shooting with that camera and I had a pleasant surprise, nobody notices that one, perfect. I love using the tilt screen and again this helps me stay almost invisible and it allows me to get low to ground for some interesting perspective's.
I thought I would share some of my latest photos from Starbucks, all shoot using the Fujifilm X-T2
Enjoy
