This past weekend was the Christmas market in my hometown, normally I leave the town for a few days as I hate it. This year I didn’t have the choice of leaving, so what to do. Thursday when the market was being set up I headed (like I always do) to Starbucks, in the evening I decided to have a walk around the market, boy was that a bad decision, I lasted all but 10 minutes before I went back to Starbucks.
The people in town turn into real assholes when this market is on, everything that is wrong with us society was on display in the town on that first night, people pushing past each other to buy crap they don’t need, this behavior sickens me.
On Friday, again I went to Starbucks to work on my project, the thought was that there would be different people in there and it would give me a new look to the photos.
Early afternoon I again decided to have a walk around the market to see if I could get any photos, I was told by another photographer in the town that the reflections on the windows on Abbeygate street were looking good, so this is where I headed and I will say I ended up with a few ok shots (which I’ve added below):
I spent a little over 2 hours walking around looking for good spots, after that I went back to Starbucks to relax which wasn’t easy to do, it was so bloody busy. Saturday was much the same, only this time I didn’t spend that long out. Too many people and way too noisy for my liking, I just couldn't block out the noise.
As Sunday rolled around I thought at first that I might give it a miss and rest at home with the family, but, the sunlight was amazing and I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take some street photos, so I headed out camera in hand ready to capture the moments I would see.
I spent most of my time waiting in 2 different spots shooting with my Fujifilm 23 F2 lens set at F8 and the distance set at 1.5 meters, something rare happened, I ended up enjoying it, yes I enjoyed doing street photography in my hometown, this is something I never thought would happen.
Below are a selection of the photos I captured over the 4 days.
