In focus

I guess this quick blog is to answer a question I get asked all the time, does it matter if the street photo taken is in focus?

the quick answer would be YES & NO, but why do I think this

To me its the same as someone asking what camera or lens did you use, it not important.

Did you capture a moment? and do you like it?

If the answer to these 2 questions is yes then that’s all that should matter. Street photography isn’t about the technical side of photography, its about capturing the decisive moments. Yes, there will be photographers that will disagree with me and that’s fine. Think of the photos of Henri Cartier-Bresson, he always went after the important moments and never worried about the camera settings.

When you go onto the streets try and forget about the gear and just worry about what’s in front of you. One piece of advice for anyone doing street photography, go out with as little as possible. 1 camera, 1 lens (35mm or 50mm are the best for me) spare batteries, memory cards or rolls of films and that’s it.

Always travel light and remember to enjoy yourself.
