Let’s talk Stealth

I love my Fujifilm X-E3, I love the way the camera looks and feels, but like many photographers I also like mine to stand out from the crowd. This is why I have added a red soft release and why I’m always switching out my camera straps.

Now, unless you Kai and you paint your camera pink theres not a lot else you can add right? Well thanks to Tekiac.de that would be wrong. Tekiac have made 2 add-ons for your Fujifilm X-E3, you can add a bigger eyecup and a stealthcover.

I got in touch with Olaf over at Tekiac.de and asked if there was anyway they might be able to send me both to try out. Within no time I had them on my camera and was ready to hit the streets, but how would I get on with these accessories.

First off I’ll start with the eyecup, as you can see from the photos it’s bigger, but does this mean better.

The eyecup fits into the flash hotshot, unfortunately this means you wouldn’t be able to use a flash when using the eyecup, not a problem for me as I rarely use a flash. The eyecup was the item that I was looking forward to trying the most, the build quality is second to none, it fits really well on the camera and it looks the part. For me however I found it got in the way, I wear glasses and the shape of them didn’t really work that well with the eyecup, I did however find it very comfortable to use without my glasses. I can see the eyecup being very useful if your a landscape or portrait photographer and you need something to block out sunlight, as I’m a street photographer I felt it was wasted on me. Maybe if they could add something that would magnify the viewfinder it would be better and I would then be able to find a use for it on the streets.

It is a great addition for the X-E3 and I would highly recommend it if you are a landscape or portrait photographer.

Now we move onto the Stealthcover, (you have to love that name) and again this is a very well built accessory that doesn’t add much weight to the camera and in my opinion fits and feels better (for me at least) than the official Fujifilm leather cover, which just felt uncomfortable. This again just like the eyecup fits the X-E3 perfectly and I have to say it looks amazing. The extra grip this cover adds is great, it makes holding the camera so much better.

For me it had a few downsides which I feel could be easily fixed and please remember this is just my opinion and I’m in on way knocking the cover, but I just wanted to be honest with my review.

I shoot in manual all the time and I have my front dial set for my ISO and unfortunately the stealthcover (still loving the name) covers that front dial, now I know for some this won’t be issue, but for me it’s a deal breaker and I just felt lost not having the use of the dial. Now maybe this is something that Tekiac.de could adjust for me and I will be asking.

The other issues I found are small and to be honest I got used to them after just a few days with the cover on. The first was it made switching the focus via the switch on the front of the camera a bit fiddly and I also found getting the SD card out a bit fiddly. Again I did get used to it and in the end both things didn’t bother me, but I just wanted to mention it.

The stealthcover is a great addition to the X-E3 and it’s perfect if your after extra grip. Tekiac.de have done amazing job with both the eyecup and stealthcover and I would recommend both accessories for any Fujifilm X-E3 shooter.
