Margate

As far as I know, this was my first visit to both Margate and Ramsgate, my good friend Matt Hall had moved from Cambridge during the first lockdown of 2020 and I’d been talking about taking the time to visit him there.

I spent 2 and half days shooting with Matt on the coast and I can say that I loved every second of it, I never fully understood why Matt decided to move to Margate, but after visiting him I get it.

Street photography on the coast in great weather which we had opens up so many opportunities and I found it overwhelming at first, my mind was running at 100 miles an hour and I had to try and focus on what was in front of me and to try and slow down, it wasn’t easy. I mediated each morning and evening and one afternoon while sitting by the seafront this helped me focus and I found myself relaxing into my shooting.

The first day was spent shooting around the old town of Margate and the coastline, the old town has some wonderful areas that I could see working and getting some great photos, but on this trip, I wanted to focus on the seafront, which I love being by the sea I find it relaxing, at the same time I was finding hard to take photos as I was getting lost in the beauty of the beach and sounds of the water.

Into the evening and I was hoping for a wonderful sunset and Margate didn’t disappoint, the sunset was amazing and this set me on the hunt looking for the perfect photo, I didn’t get the perfect photo but I did get a few I was happy with.

The second day we jumped on the bus and headed to Ramsgate and boy was I surprised, the architecture and the seafront are incredible and once again I found myself being overwhelmed by everything, but unlike Margate I was able to focus and I found myself shooting like the old days I didn’t get worried about what anyone thought I just focused on my photography and I loved it.

I’d like to take the time to thank my friend Matt and his lovely wife Mel for opening their home to me, I had a wonderful time.
