Sounds mad right, why would anyone do this. Well without really noticing I’ve been doing this very thing for the past 6 years. I spent the first 2 years using a Nikon 50mm F1.4 D lens, then I switched from Nikon to Fuji and started using the Fujifilm X100, this camera has a fixed 23mm F2 lens, I used the camera for just under a year before going back to Nikon, instead of going back to the 50 F1.4D I decided to try the new 50 F1.8G and again I ended up using this lens for a little over a year.
I then switched back to the Fuji X system and bought the 35mm F2 lens and only used this one lens for just over a year.
Don't get me wrong I tried other lenses but I used the 35 F2 for at least 90% of the year. Then I bought the Fujifilm 56mm F1.2 and again without noticing I spent the following year using just this one lens.
At the start of 2018, I was sent the 23mm F2 from Fujifilm UK and man I fell in love with it. I forgot what it was like to use a 35mm focal length, being able to more of the scene into the photo. So I’ve decided to use this one lens for the following year and just so I'm not tempted (and I would be tempted) to switch back to my beloved 56mm I'm going to do the unthinkable, yes that's right I'm going to sell it and I can't believe I'm saying that, if I really can’t get on without it I can always buy it back.
I will say that at no point since the start of the year have I been tempted to use it, this is a good thing.
I'm going to be interested In comparing the photos over the next few years and I hope by doing this it will keep my street photography fresh and in turn, this will help me grow as a photographer, well that's the plan.
I wonder how many street photographers stick to one focal length, I bet it’s not many.
(I’m going to add a bit here and say that I just couldn’t do it, I couldn’t let my 56mm go. I won't be using it for street photography)
