Street art

“It’s not until something is gone that we miss it” Martha Cooper

Street art is a wonderful and important art form that documents moments in time before they are covered over and lost for ever. The name that comes to mind when I think of street art is Martha Cooper, the New York street photographer who has heavily influenced my work.

If I’m honest, I’ve always thought of street art as an American thing - plastered everywhere in New York but harder to find in the UK. That was until I moved to Liverpool, where street art can be found on nearly every corner. Of course not all of it is good, but a large percentage of it shows real talent and passion. And I want to document as much of this work - good or bad - while I’m living in Liverpool.

Street art isn’t limited to graffiti as there’s plenty of what I’d regard as art work decorating the sides of buildings too.

I not only want to document this art, I would also like to meet with the artists and learn more about what inspires and motivates them to explore this art form. As I write this blog I’m unsure of how I would approach this, but I’ll find a way.
