Lasers, lights, smoke and music for a photographer like me is a dream come true and there was no way I was going to miss it.
Like many of us who grew up in the 1980s (the greatest decade), we all remember Jean-Michel Jarre and his laser light shows from different parts of the world. Well, one person who was influenced by his music and shows is Paul Alty (Below).
Paul had put together a 30-minute immersive show called Black Hole - End of Time in this wonderful old Christ church in Waterloo, Merseyside. I booked 2 tickets for myself and my wife on Saturday evening the second night. I took my camera as I planned to take as many photos as I could, but I didn’t take any as the show was amazing and I didn’t want to miss a second of it. The show is set around a black hole - a real black hole that floats, ominously in the middle of the church, whilst the air buzzes as laser beams dance around it and white fluffy clouds swirl at your feet.
Once our show had finished I approached one of the staff and asked if there was any chance I could stay for the next show, to my surprise she introduced me to Paul himself who was super nice, he had no problem with me staying for the chance to take some photos. Once the show ended I thanked him and went home, the trouble was I couldn’t stop thinking about what an amazing night it was.
Sunday morning I was going through the photos and I thought if I had another chance I could do better. So I reached out to Paul and again thanked him for a great evening and asked if there was any chance of me coming back for the final evening and again his act of kindness was unbelievable I got told to come back for the full evening.
I spent over 3 hours shooting taking over 6,000 photos which is just crazy, the venue wasn’t easy for photography as it was very dark and everything moved fast and even with the difficulty I was having so much fun I loved it. I’ve been struggling with my mental health these past few months and through Paul’s kindness I was for the first time in ages enjoying myself.
I want to take the time here to properly Thank Paul and his team for their kindness towards me, you all made my weekend so special and I’ll never be able to share with you how wonderful that was and what it meant to me, Thank you
If you ever get the chance to see one of Paul’s shows live do it, you won’t be disappointed. I will leave a link to his music here please go and check it out. Instagram: @waxapul
