Liverpool

It’s been a year since Elizabeth and I first visited Liverpool and what a year its been, we both feel like we’ve been riding a rollercoaster, yes we’ve had lots of ups and some downs but that’s life. Liverpool is amazing city to live in, there is so much going on and there’s no way anyone could ever become bored living here. Everyday I wake up to the view of the sun rising above the Royal Liver building, the River Mersey and the Pier Head and I can’t believe how lucky both Elizabeth and I are to be living here. I get ready for my day of street photography by meditating for at least 30 minutes with the view of the city taking in all it has to offer.

By the time I’m on the streets with my camera in hand I have the confidence and peace that I’ve always looked for and I’m ready for anything this city throws at me. I’m starting to find my way around this vast city, which at first I found to be overwhelming and I guess in a way I still find it to be overwhelming. The problem I’m finding is the city has too much to offer, I did start to think of this as negative thing, but it really isn’t and I had to find a way to deal with it.

I started to study a map of Liverpool and I found that the city is broken up into many parts, the Knowledge Quarter, the Meta Quarter, the Georgian Quarter etc having the city broken up into so many different areas just makes things so much easier to focus. If I want a day of peace and quiet I’ll head out to the Georgian Quarter which is so beautiful and if I want a day with lots of people I’ll head to the Meta Quarter.

Being able to break the city down into areas takes all the pressure off and all of a sudden I don’t feel as overwhelmed by it all. The other great thing about Liverpool is all the areas are within walking distance of each other, making it so easy to get around.

During the evenings when the sun is setting I’ll head down to the river or maybe the coast, the city has many coastlines all with 15 to 20 minutes from where I live and the public transport is unbelievable and you won’t believe how cheap it is. I can have a quiet day relaxing and then myself and Elizabeth will jump on the train and head to the coast for a walk along the beach as we watch the sun setting and it really doesn’t matter what the weather is doing. Once back in the city we might head over to the Albert dock for a beer and then a walk along the river watching the ships  or maybe we’ll sit and I’ll photograph the skateboarders.

It doesn’t matter day or night, weekday or weekend Liverpool is an incredible city with wonderful people who have welcomed us with open arms, moving here was the best decision we made and Elizabeth and I don’t regret it for a second.

We love living here and I love the opportunities I have for my street photography.
