Manchester, the London of the north

I had my first day visiting Manchester and boy what an amazing city. I thought Liverpool was overwhelming but Manchester is on another level I felt so lost walking around which of course is to be expected as I had no idea where anything was. The positive from being this lost was I was walking into streets and alleys that I never would’ve found unless I was as lost as I was, I found some wonderful areas for street photography and I just hope I can remember where those areas were. The weather was also warm and sunny which brought everyone out, there was so many places where people just sat and eat food or met up with friends.

I spent about 7 hours walking around and I took only a handful of photos, the day was more of a learning experience. I had no idea just how big Manchester was, it really felt like London. The city was busy and yet when I met a friend he told me it was a quiet day and I guess that’s why it felt like London as London can be busy even on a quiet day.

The city also has areas that look and feel like New York City, I now know why film studios use Manchester as a background for New York. I would like to spend more time shooting the architecture, the city seems to mix the old with the new perfectly.

As for street photography I felt as if Manchester had it all, photographing people travelling on the trams was something I connected with and I want to spend more time doing this. It was interesting to see people pushing carts around the city selling their items of food, sunglasses etc and I hope to take more photos of this. The shopping areas were alive with people and I know I could spend hours just taking photos of people coming and going from shop to shop.

Over the next few years I’ll be able to find my way around the city and I know that my street photography will grow.
