Sony, Coming full circle

This past month I came full circle, my first mirrorless camera was the original Sony A7 a camera that I loved but the glass at the time was limited and slow, boy how times have changed. I’ve been watching and reading so many reviews about the Sony cameras and the more I read /watched the more I started to second guess myself at the end of the day you can do too much research.

I stopped watching and reading reviews and I made the jump and splashed the cash on the Sony A7 III and paired this with the 85mm F1.4 GM lens the perfect pair, or at least that’s what I was hoping.

I was worried about 2 things with the camera and lens, the speed of the autofocus and the hated Sony menu system, I’d heard that the lens was one of Sony’s slowest and that the menu would drive me crazy, let’s address the speed of the lens if this lens is one of the slowest G masters from Sony I can’t wait to try one of the fastest, it’s not slow and it never misses you have no idea how happy I am with the lens, after a month of shooting with the lens I’m still shocked by how fast and accurate it is.

As for the menu, I have no idea why others hate it so much, the menu is so intuitive it takes no time to find what I’m looking for, I knew my way around the menu within hours of unboxing the camera and it didn’t drive me crazy, I’ve been left with questioning why have I waited so long to move back to Sony, no doubt I was just comfortable with Fuji and like most of us I was just lazy.

I traded in my Fujifilm X-T3 a camera which I never got on with, the focus was awful and missed the subject 80% of the time including people standing still in good light, I watched many a video where other photographers compared the Sony with the Fujifilm and all said the Fuji was better, after shooting with the Sony for the past 5 weeks I have to ask a few questions, are the reviewers being paid by Fuji to say that the focus was better, did I have a faulty T3 or did I just have the camera set up wrong, I’m sure the answer to all the questions is No I just know the Sony is a better camera and I feel like I’ve been shooting with this system for years, that’s how comfortable I feel using it. The camera body feels small but it is heavier than the Fuji however most of the weight is the lens, this is almost twice the weight of the Fuji 56mm when you see the results from the lens it’s worth the extra weight.

It’s great being back on the streets with a camera that I never have to think about, it just does the job and so far it hasn’t let me down and I’m sure it never will.

I’ll be updating my journey with the Sony right here on my blog, for now here are some of the first photos taken with the camera, Enjoy.
